Faith Over Fear: Investing with Biblical Confidence
In today’s volatile financial world, fear is a frequent companion—market downturns, economic uncertainty, and the constant drumbeat of bad news can easily shake our sense of security. But as believers, we are called to a higher standard, one that rests not on worldly markets but on the unchanging promises of God. The Bible offers a solid foundation for approaching investments with faith rather than fear, guiding us to be wise stewards while trusting fully in the Lord’s provision.
Faith and Finances: What Does the Bible Say?
Scripture never condemns wise investing—in fact, it encourages it. In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus tells the Parable of the Talents, where a master entrusts his servants with money. The ones who invested it wisely and multiplied it were commended; the one who buried his out of fear was rebuked. The takeaway? God expects us to use our resources wisely, courageously, and for His glory—not to hide them in fear.
Proverbs 21:5 tells us, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” Faith-filled investing isn’t impulsive or reckless; it’s diligent, informed, and grounded in prayer.
Fear is Not Your Advisor
Fear is a terrible financial advisor. It tells us to sell in a panic, to hoard instead of share, and to make decisions based on emotion rather than wisdom. But 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
When we let fear drive our financial decisions, we are saying—whether we mean to or not—that we trust our circumstances more than we trust God. Faithful investing means seeking God’s wisdom, trusting His timing, and being patient in the process.
