Retire, Downsize & Hit the Road: Part 4 – Living the Dream
Once you start RVing—really getting out there and exploring—the lifestyle begins to take shape. And for many retirees, the most surprising part is the sense of community.
Even as a part-time RVer, I’ve met some of the kindest, most genuine people in campgrounds across the country. There’s something about the lifestyle that makes conversations easy. People wave, greet you, ask where you’re headed next. Campgrounds often feel more like neighborhoods than many physical neighborhoods do.
And then there’s the rhythm of travel. You start planning trips around seasons instead of schedules. A one-night stop becomes a three-night stay. A three-night stay becomes a week.
A 2022 Harvard study found that time spent in nature significantly improves overall life satisfaction—and RVers often spend more time outdoors than they have in years. Challenges happen: weather shifts, tires fail, campgrounds fill. But those moments become stories—experience-sharpeners that deepen your appreciation for the lifestyle.
If you're starting to imagine what RV travel could look like as part of your ideal retirement—whether a few trips a year or extended adventures—I’d be happy to share insights from both my financial planning experience and my own time on the road.
