What if you only paid for
the advice you need — and nothing more?
The traditional advice industry bundles planning into one ongoing percentage fee — so whether your financial life is highly complex or largely settled, you pay the same rate forever. Most people have no idea how much that quietly costs them over a lifetime.
At Otium, you pay for the advice you need — at the stage of life you're actually in. Your planning fee is flat and based on the complexity of your situation. When planning simplifies, your fee decreases. When it's no longer needed, it goes away entirely.
What makes us different.
Predictable Fees
Planning fees based on the complexity of your financial life — not your portfolio size. Your fee doesn't quietly grow when markets rise.
More Efficient as You Grow
As your wealth grows, Otium's fees become a smaller percentage of your assets — so you keep more of every dollar of growth.
Comprehensive Planning
Retirement, taxes, Social Security, estate, and legacy planning — fully integrated into one coherent strategy built around your life.
Asset-Based Credits
Loyalty credits reward long-term and larger client relationships — so your commitment to us is recognized in your fees.
True Partnership
We align with your goals and are here for every step of your journey — proactively anticipating changes before they become problems.
The traditional model
wasn't built for you.
Most advisors charge a single percentage of your total investment portfolio — often called a "percentage-based fee." That fee covers everything: managing your investments and your financial planning. The problem is, it never goes down.
Planning Needs Are Highest Early
The most intensive planning happens in the early years — building your strategy, optimizing taxes, coordinating accounts. After that, the complexity often decreases significantly.
But the Fee Never Decreases
In the traditional model, you keep paying the same percentage year after year — even as your need for active planning winds down. Worse, as your portfolio grows, so does the fee.
There's a Better Way
A flat planning fee based on your actual complexity — one that can decrease as your life simplifies, and go away entirely when planning is no longer needed. That's the Otium model.
"You should pay for the advice you need — not a fee that grows with your portfolio forever."
See Our Planning Stages →Two fees.
Two different jobs.
Investment Management Fee
This fee only applies to investment accounts that Otium directly manages on your behalf — not your entire net worth, not your home, not your 401(k) at work. It's a small percentage of those managed accounts, tiered so the rate declines as your balance grows.
- Charged only on accounts Otium manages — nothing else
- Tiered rates that decline as your managed balance grows
- Active portfolio monitoring, rebalancing and tax-coordinated placement
Financial Planning Fee
This is a separate, fixed fee for the actual planning work — strategy, tax planning, goal mapping, retirement income, legacy. It's based on the complexity of your financial life, not how large your portfolio is.
- Flat fee — doesn't rise when markets do
- Based on your planning complexity, not portfolio size
- Can decrease as your life simplifies
- Goes away entirely when planning is no longer needed
